Lorenzo Calderon Jr. is a lifelong Calexico resident and the son of Lorenzo and Enriqueta Calderón. He graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Criminal Justice.

He spent 29 years in corrections administration and retired as an Associate Warden in 2014. Lorenzo and his wife have raised four children.

From 2014 through 2024, he served on the Calexico Unified School District Board, including service representing the district on the Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program (IVROP) Board. Calexico voters elected him to the City Council in 2024 for a term through November 2028; he now serves as Mayor Pro Tem.

Balanced budget and fiscal recovery

On June 30, 2025, Lorenzo made the successful motion to adopt the FY 2025–26 annual budget; the adopted plan described a balanced General Fund operating plan. In October 2025, the California State Auditor removed Calexico’s high-risk designation after years of citywide corrective work.
